The service life of electrical switchgear is designed for a service life of 30 years. Meanwhile, the average age of switchgear is significantly higher than 40 years. The main causes for this are a low susceptibility to failure as well as the compulsion to reduce costs and optimize their use. Due to the high age of the electrical infrastructure, the question then arises as to whether and how aging effects can be determined after the end of the service life of switchgear that have been operationally aged.
