Many people may wonder how and why China rose from participating in the Paralympic Games for the very first time to becoming by far the most powerful summer Paralympic nation in a little over 20 years. In this chapter, the authors try to answer this question by discussing some of the possible indicators such as Chinese economic development, legal framework, and organisational structure. Meanwhile, the authors also give a brief introduction of the developing history of sports for people with disabilities in China.
