The motion of the interface separating the sheath boundary layer and quasi-neutral plasma is formulated in the terms of level set motion. The equations for the motion are derived and given as a system of partial differential equations. When restricted to the case of planar, cylindrical, and spherical symmetries, these equations become ordinary differential equations. © 2006 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
