Abstract

Splenectomy is performed for a variety of hematologic indications, as well as primary splenic tumors, abscesses, and in cases of trauma. This chapter describes open splenectomy for disease and discusses the pitfalls and complications of the operation. Details of operative strategy and technique are included.
