Abstract

[focus on primary] prevention of fears and anxiety disorders in childhood / outlined a multilevel model for the prevention of children's maladaptive fears and anxiety problems / the model stressed the need for intervention at 3 levels, namely: (1) the sociocultural/physical environment, (2) specific environmental influences/learning experiences, and (3) the child's individual characteristics / factors relating to the etiology and maintenance of childhood maladaptive fears and anxiety at each of these levels were outlined, followed by suggestions for appropriate intervention examples of prevention programs and their effectiveness / methodological problems in the implementation and evaluation of preventative programs (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
