Abstract

Fire poses a serious threat to living creatures and to the environment. Presently, numerical and experimental investigations have provided calculation rules for the assessment of the carrying capacity of building components in the event of a fire. Actually, the remaining resistance of structure, depending on time exposure to fire can be evaluated using the current geometry, material and section design characteristic as well as information on fire development provided by fire-fighting crew. Beside the load bearing functions, the separation or insulation criterions could be important. The paper deals with the above mentioned passive fire measurements. Particular emphases are placed on damage assessments and suitability of structure affected by a fire, illustrated on the case study.
