Abstract

We all eat but bring different eyes to our food, to how we buy and waste it. What do those who grow food have in common, how have they dealt with rules about food growing and what are their strategies? To answer such questions, I bring you three stories about growing food; my own and two others. I discuss how rules affect the three projects, then offer some strategies which may attract more people to grow food in the city and country. These include keeping rain where it falls, choosing simple things anyone may do or understand, composting food waste, cooling streets with plants and rainwater, and using financial incentives to achieve wide acceptance and action.
