Abstract

Several authors have highlighted the growing number of publications on entrepreneurial universities and have drawn academia's attention to the need for more studies focusing on entrepreneurial orientation (EO) of universities as it is an area that is still under-explored. The entrepreneurial university concept tends to be diverse and ambiguous in the literature, attracting several researchers' attention. In this sense, EO should also be increasingly integrated into the university's role. Thus, this study sought to contribute to state-of-the-art development about university EO using a systematic literature review. The aim is to analyze the literature on university EO to identify key trends in the literature, gaps in the literature and define a research agenda. The results identified three major dimensions around EO in universities: i) entrepreneurial orientation and entrepreneurial universities, ii) entrepreneurial orientation and academic spin-offs, and iii) entrepreneurial orientation and academic entrepreneurship.
