The ability to practice "smart" medicine--effectively matching individualized therapy to individual patients, including preventive therapy for patients at higher risk of cardiovascular disease--is likely to have the most profound impact on clinical practice in the future. This ability will be based in part on the understanding we are now building of the genetics of coronary artery disease (CAD) and myocardial infarction (MI).
