Abstract

Traditional open web-based collaborative learning environment has two disadvantages. One is the blindness of selecting learning companion; the other is the imbalance of learning burden. However, web-based adaptive collaborative learning environment is composed of discussion forum and one-on-one peer help, user model, collaborative strategy model and adaptive component. It is able to reason and justify logistically, provide learners with appropriate companion list, and limit the number of help requirements that a student receives at one time. Therefore, it can get rid of the disadvantages of traditional open web-based collaborative learning environment, and improve the quality and efficiency of learning. © Springer-Verlag 2004.
