Abstract

The synthetic utility of the Polonovski reaction has recently been widely explored. Besides classical use in dealkylation of tertiary amines and in the preparation of enamines, it can also be used in the syntheses of a Mannich reagent and many indole alkaloids. Success in the syntheses of vinblastine and related compounds is one of the most important developments. The present review summarizes the synthetic applications of this reaction. © 1980, The Society of Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Japan. All rights reserved.
