Abstract

Public data collected or possessed by administrative agencies and subsequently released as Open Data is expected to bring about positive economic effects. We aim to establish a point of view and methods for the estimation of the economic effect through the utilization of Open Data. For this purpose we conducted a questionnaire survey on local governments in Japan. The result of the survey shows that Open Data in local governments in Japan is still in earlier stage and it should be difficult to produce the economic effect within the area of them. But, it also shows the possibility of estimating the economic effect by the utilization of Open Data quantitatively.
