A two-stage method for the preparation of Eu2+-doped Ca 3SiO4Cl2 is reported. It was observed that the emission intensity is significantly enhanced up to 30% by the two-stage method. The critical concentration of Eu2+ was found to be 0.01 mol % and the critical radius was ∼31.9 Å. The broad excitation band and strong emission indicate that the Ca3SiO4Cl2:Eu 2+ phosphor could be a good green-phosphor candidate for creating white light in phosphor-converted white light-emitting diodes (LEDs). © 2009 The Electrochemical Society.
