Abstract

With economic globalization and education internationalization, developing college students’ global competency has become a hot topic in the field of education. However, most existing research only defines global competency, and few papers involve the global competency cultivation model. Fewer instruments have been designed to measure college students’ global competency, and the theoretical structure of global competency has not been widely empirically examined. To fill this research gap, this paper constructs the global competency training model and builds evaluation index system of college students based on a 4-dimensional theoretical framework (Knowledge and understanding, Skills, Attitude and value, Experience). Then, the paper designs and administers the global competency evaluation scale to college students sampled from universities in China. The theoretical model is supported by the results of exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. The reliability and validity of the global competency evaluation scale are examined. Finally, the paper develops a 4-dimensional and 9-factor global competency evaluation scale. This paper clarifies the connotation and structure of the college students’ global competency and develops a scale with good reliability and validity to provide effective measurement tools, which promotes the construction of the theoretical system of the global competency.
