Agrostophyllum is a large genus with nearly 100 botanical species (i.e. they are of no horticultural consequence) distributed from Seychelles and Madagascar across tropical Asia to the Pacific Islands. Plants are epiphytic or saxicolous, medium sized to large and stems 10 - 100 cm long, usually flattened, bearing numerous narrow leaves in two ranks, overlapping at the base (Fig. 8.1). Inflorescence is short, terminal, a ball of crowded bracts and small flowers. Kelabit in Sarawak wear the orchid as a charm to protect them against curses (Christensen 2002).
