Abstract

The economic propsects for breeders, which, in a nuclear energy future, must ultimately replace the reactors of today, are examined. It is shown that, with breeders, nuclear power can deliver electricity almost indefinitely at prices that are only moderately higher than those of today's systems. Fast breeder reactor economics is not yet a fact of today, however. What is presented is the way by which not merely breeders but any system with future prospects is planned for development through a process of incremental cost-reduction through experience.
