THE TRANSLATOR'S WORK-STATION IN THE AGE OF ARTIFI-CIAL INTELLIGENCE. TOWARDS KNOWLEDGE-ASSISTED TRANS-LATION

Abstract

Innovations appear-ing within the framework of com-munication technologies and arti-ficial intelligence are giving rise to a new generation of computer-as-sisted translation systems, called by do Carmo et al. (2016: 149) "knowledge-assisted translation". This paper aims to find out to what extent the professional translator's tasks are currently assisted by knowledge. To this end, after ex-plaining the concept of the trans-lator's workstation, the processes of the translation project are de-tailed, specifying their tasks within a context of computer-assisted translation and, where appropri-ate, knowledge-assisted. We con-clude with the central tasks which will be optimized by intelligent technologies and which will be able to create a more knowledge-as-sisted workflow.
