There is no doubt that the general public believes that advances are being made in neuroscience and in our understanding of how the brain works. There are numerous reports in the media about the work of civil neuroscientists. As an example, Table 5.1 lists some major articles from the popular science journal, New Scientist, in August and September of 2013, when sarin was being used on a large scale in Syria.1
