Abstract

The necessity of accurate dosimetric and especially of generalnear-field evaluations in wireless product development and certificationwill continuously grow in the coming years. In product development, farfield evaluations provide insufficient information for analyzing andoptimizing the performance of transmitters operating in complexenvironments. Driven by growing public concern, new and more strictlegal requirements regarding compliance with safety limits might bereleased in the near future which will demand enhanced and more precisedosimetric tools and procedures in order to minimize any unnecessaryrestrictions for the exploration of wireless technology. In addition, special tools will be required to analyze, develop, optimize, and verifyexposure systems for bioexperiments addressing public health riskconcern. The objective of this paper is to review the latest progress innear-field measurement technology and to discuss future needs.
