Abstract

The first metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint is the most common site for the development of degenerative arthrosis within the forefoot. Fusion, or arthrodesis, is a reliable and proven technique for the treatment of many different pathologic conditions of the first MTP joint. The main goal of arthrodesis surgery is to definitively alleviate pain and facilitate a return to a full and active lifestyle.
