Results on the synthesis process of nanometric ceramic powders of the Sr1-xBaxNb2O6 compound (SBN) for two values of x (0.33 and 0.50), and two synthesis methods (Pechini and controlled coprecipitation) are presented. Parameters such as pH of solution, niobium precursor and heat treatment were varied. The phase purity of obtained powders was analysed by X-ray diffraction and their morphology by scanning electron microscopy. The effect of both synthesis methods and of the above mentioned parameters in obtaining pure phase and particle size were concluded from the characterization analysis. Pechini method (with pH = 9.7) yielded the pure phase SBN for x = 0.33 and particle size of the order of 50 nm, while the controlled co-precipitation method was not possible to obtain pure phase.
