Abstract

The importance of services to justice-involved individuals that reduce the risk of re-offense seems clear. Both individuals receiving such services and the larger society in which they live benefit from responsible, prosocial behavior rather than criminal offending. However, there are important questions about the purpose, nature, and empirical support for rehabilitative services provided to individuals who become involved with the criminal justice system. These questions are addressed in this chapter, which also reviews the existing evidence supporting various kinds of interventions. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2017 APA, all rights reserved)
