Abstract

This chapter aims to provide input for reflection on education policies regarding the entry, stay, and completion of higher education by poor students. The central problem addressed in this paper is about the current policies implemented under the justification of poverty eradication in the world, specifically about the policies of access to higher education presented as a strategy to overcome inequalities. Its proposition is justified because higher education represents a fertile ground for problematizations that can unfold in social transformation. It is expected, as results, to contribute to the knowledge of information that allows an analysis of the situation of the poor who arrive at higher education, considering that merely allowing access does not guarantee the conditions of permanence and completion of higher education. It is important to remember that the conditions of exclusion present in the daily life of a society divided into classes are also manifested in the relations of teaching and learning in this context.
