Intoxicação por Cycas revoluta Thunb em cão: Relato de caso

Abstract

Intoxication by toxic plants is an occurrence of great importance in veterinary medicine. Cycas revoluta Thunb is widely used for ornamentation and is occasionally involved in cases of poisoning in animals because of its toxic components. The objective of the present work is to report a case of intoxication caused by the ingestion of the plant Cycas revoluta Thunb by a dog. A male canine, Golden Retriever breed, 6 months old, weighing 22 kg, was treated after ingesting the stem of the Cycas revoluta Thunb plant. In the anamnesis and physical examination, the animal showed signs of intoxication, such as vomiting, yellowish urine and jaundiced mucous membranes. After treatment, the patient did not improve and died. Based on the findings in this report, it is concluded that Cyca revoluta is toxic to companion animals.A intoxicação por plantas tóxicas é uma ocorrência de grande importância na medicina veterinária. Cycas revoluta Thunb é muito usada para ornamentação e eventualmente está envolvida em casos de intoxicações em animais por apresentar componentes tóxicos. O objetivo do presente trabalho é relatar um caso de intoxicação causada pela planta Cycas revoluta Thunb em cão. Foi atendido um canino macho, da raça Golden Retriever, seis meses de idade, com 22 kg, após ingerir o caule da planta Cycas revoluta Thunb. Na anamnese e exame físico o animal apresentou sinais de intoxicação, como vômito, urina amarelada e mucosas ictéricas. Após o tratamento o paciente não apresentou melhoras e veio a óbito. Diante dos achados encontrados neste relato conclui-se que a Cyca revoluta é tóxica para animais de companhia
