Abstract

A variety of materials goes into the construction of any project, ensuring that a right material finds its way to the site and its subsequent use during the construction is the outcome of an effective testing strategy. It also aims to ensure that whatever material goes into the construction schedule must meet the prescribed norms to perform satisfactorily. An effective testing and evaluation strategy help to cut the unnecessary expenditure that otherwise would incur on clearing operations at site of rejected/unacceptable materials and on the demolition and recasting operations in case any unacceptable material is used in the construction activities. This chapter presents various sampling techniques and ways to formulate acceptance criterion. Different test parameters are also described that normally forms part of the material specifications and related acceptance criterion.
