Abstract

This article presents a critical reading of Paulo Freire's participation in the process of decolonization in Africa during the 1970s, as well as an analysis of today's relevance of his political-pedagogical proposal for the education's reality in that continent. Firstly, it tries to situate the social, historical and cultural aspects of colonization in Africa, its characteristics and particularities of domination. Subsequently, we consider Freire's main political-educational proposals for the post-colonial Africa encountering the African cultural plurality. Lastly, we present a comprehensive overview of the political-educational situation in Africa in order to identify the contemporaneity of Freire's contribution against the backdrop of the new educational challenges in the African Continent.
