Abstract

Long-term use of opioid medication in chronic pain patients may increase the risk for potential pain medication misuse (Solanki et al. Pain Physician. 2011;14:119-31). Recent data suggests that prescriptions of opioids are the second most commonly misused substances. Thus, the rigorous assessment of both chronic pain and potential opioid misuse is necessary aspect of chronic pain treatment.
