Abstract

This work deals with the aeroacoustic sound radiated by a forwardbackward facing step. A large eddy simulation with coupled aeroacoustic computation was carried out. In addition, acoustic measurements in an acoustic wind tunnel were conducted and compared with the numerical results. The sound radiation of the step geometry is dominated by broadband noise. The results show that the simulation is able to capture the acoustic field and the numerical results enable the identification of flow regions responsible for sound generation.
