The technique of threshold photoelectron spectroscopy termed photoionization resonance spectroscopy is based on the detection of photoelectrons of zero kinetic energy, which are found only if the ionizing photon(s) match exactly the energy difference between an ionic and a mol. state (i.e. if ionic and mol. state are in resonance). The method is applicable to the study of rotational structure even of larger mol. ions, such as those of NO or PhH.
