Abstract

Oxidative stress seems to be of importance in immunopathogenesis of multiple internal diseases. The significance of mitochondrial metabolism is discussed, particularly in light of its participation in immunopathogenesis of bronchial asthma and selected liver-related diseases, such as primary biliary cirrhosis and chronic hepatitis C. The significance of complementary antioxidative therapy in asthmatics, including coenzyme Q10, is also reviewed. New insight into pathogenetic factors of chronic hepatitis C in relation to oxidative stress is presented. © 2008 Springer Netherlands.
