Abstract

The Documentation Department of Editorial Espasa was created in 1860 with the founding of the publishing company. In this interview with its manager, its origin and evolution is shown and the three most important document types in its collections -books, photographs and texts- are used to describe and illustrate the works that have been published during the 150-year history of the publisher. The existence of the Documentation Department is justified for the extensive collections of the archive and the library. The interview concludes that the traditional concept of publishing is changing with the advent of the new media, although the book in its traditional format will not disappear.
