Abstract

Material flow investigations (IM), product flow analysis (LCA) and integrated materials-product flow analysis (MP). MP chains defined through chemical, technological, or economic (functional) linkages. Only “core” is investigated, not entire cycle. Production of PVC as an example. Modeling of MP chain to determine when and what pollutants are released - scenarios for alternate product policy. Economic modeling to see where taxes and other instruments could be most effective. Dutch NEPP - “chain liability”; closing of cycles, “extensification” of cycles and enhancing of product quality as defining features. Chain mgmt - instruments can be found through finding “leverage points” - emissions charges(residuals leverage) or deposit-refund systems (reuse leverage). Scenario development on Stella.
