Abstract

Inguinal hernia repair remains one of the most common procedures performed in the USA, with more than 750,000 performed annually. Consideration of various approaches to groin dissection along with repair and anesthesia methods more complicated when dealing with the acutely incarcerated or strangulated hernia. This chapter presents an overview attempt to identify the disease process; describe the relevant factors that affect choice of reduction and repair; outline and describe pertinent repairs, approaches; and outline the different complications.
