Abstract

Conceive a child in a situation of a positive HIV/AIDS diagnosis may be emotionally hard to women. In the current study, it was conducted a review of the Brazilian literature of the last decade (2000- 2010), and it were identified 20 studies on the topic of the experience of pregnancy in the context of HIV seropositivity. Specifically, it was aimed to identify relevant issues for future research and psychological interventions for this population. The results pointed to typical experiences of pregnancy, such as affective contact with baby and concerns about baby’s health, and to particular experiences imposed by seropositivity, like frustration at the prospect of not breastfeeding and fear of vertical transmission. Social support emerged as a facilitator aspect to manage the disease and to continue its treatment. These findings allowed identifying relevant aspects for future research in Brazil and provide indications for the psychological intervention with HIV-positive population.
