Abstract

The article presents an approach to automation with regards to manufacturing processes in the Colombian industrial context taking into account different sources of information that generate a multiplicity of data concerning the present and future of companies facing innovation and national and international competitivity. On the other hand, the benefits of automation implementation in the manufacturing industry are exposed from several angles, thus easing up the understanding of its implementation. In addition to that, a comparative analysis is carried out with respect to the manufacturing processes implemented in Colombia and current industry trends and feasible suggestions for their application to manufacturing procedures so as to improve Colombian economy are proposed.
