OBJECTIVE. The purpose of our review is to discuss the current state of lung cancer screening using CT in the context of defined criteria for effective screening. CONCLUSION. Although there are hopeful developments in lung cancer screening, a number of unresolved issues must be answered before adopting screening on a large scale. Currently no data exist to suggest that lung cancer screening with CT will result in a decrease in lung cancer mortality. © American Roentgen Ray Society.
