Assessment and evaluation in a transnational radiodiagnosis training program

Abstract

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) has redesigned its national training program and curriculum in diagnostic radiology, which is delivered across multiple jurisdictions in three different countries. First implemented in December 2009, the new curriculum is characterised by systematic development and implementation of a wide range of new assessment tools in order to more completely assess trainee competence and to improve the quality of trainee evaluations. The increased scope, number, and breadth of new assessments have been logistically challenging, and have required a cultural shift in assessment strategy for the College, trainees, and training centres. Successful implementation of a greatly expanded comprehensive assessment and evaluation framework requires time, and major philosophical and cultural shifts, in order to achieve widespread acceptance. This chapter highlights the differences in assessment and evaluation between the old and new RANZCR radiology training programs.
