Abstract

A retired teacher reviews the results of a lifetime of work. Teachers are seldom optimists; not much that is visible remains of their efforts a decade later. Still, a lot of unidentifiable, unseen influence is imparted, and later affects the course of society and human events. The situation in Hungary augurs well for a future society of intellectuals. The accumulation of wealth is not possible and politicians are more pitied than envied. The only genuine prestige is accorded the intellectual creators, a fact which has stimulated large numbers of people to seek further intellectual development.
