A bibliometrical analysis of corpus-based interpreting studies in china—based on a database of articles published in the cssci journals (2007–2017)

Abstract

Through a bibliometrical analysis of a database of quality articles in corpus-based interpreting studies published between 2007 and 2017 in 13 CSSCI journals, this article describes the status quo of corpus-based interpreting studies in China during the past decade. A quantitative survey is conducted to reveal the annual production, the distribution of articles in different journals and active researchers of the field. More in-depth qualitative analysis is also conducted over the themes and content of the articles. The study finds that the total number of publication in this period is still small. The distribution of articles indicates the marginalized status of CIS under the discipline of Foreign Linguistics. The active researchers are mainly the builder of the five representative interpreting corpora in China. The research themes range from interpreting product and interpreting pedagogy to literature analysis, construction and application of corpus and research methodology. It is concluded from the bibliometrical analysis that new progress has been achieved in corpus-based interpreting studies in China during the past decade, which is evident in diversified categories of corpora, higher ultimate research pursuit and expanded research scope. It is also found that CIS in China may enjoy better development by increasing the representativeness in corpus design, increasing teaching-oriented CIS, realizing resource sharing, strengthening the cooperation and communication between CIS researchers and standardizing means of annotation.
