Abstract

Textiles play a role in numerous walks of life. While clothing still leads the field with a 43.5% share of worldwide textile production, this figure lay at 50% in the mid-1990s. The share of household textiles - and especially that of technical textiles - has risen simultaneously over the last few years. Household textiles include curtains, towels, carpets, table and bed linen. Technical textiles are found not only in cars, but also for example as filters or in the agricultural and medical sectors. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.
