Abstract

This paper calls for a synthesis between conceptual history and genealogy -in Foucault's terms-, as a basis for a critical review of the school and the curriculum, a prerequisite for the development of critical education. It starts by exploring the semantic evolution of three conceptual spheres (education, history and memory), the first two related to the logic of modern thought and the third one to its challenge. Then I propose a historical education that breaks with the logic of the established curriculum of the discipline (el código disciplinar), through the use of the educational potential of a history with memory, a way to overcome the division between historical science and experience. In order to do so, a call is made in favor of a critical teaching approach, a combination of theoretical and practical activities, focused on a history of the present aimed at understanding our present-day problems.
