Abstract

Internet topology research is often done at the autonomous system level because of its highest level of granularity and the availability of several public datasets. The purpose of this literature review is to discover the reasons why Internet topology research at the level of the autonomous system needs to be carried out, to observe how related research is carried out, and to list the limitations of current research and the possibility of future research in this field. Literature search as sources of literature review was conducted on three digital libraries with the publication time of the last 10 years; the search results were then selected to fit the inclusion criteria. The results of the literature study show that the main reasons for research in this area are to measure the growth and development of the evolving Internet topology, to map the structure of the Internet topology that is not centralized and managed by various parties, and to model the Internet topology in order to improve its performance, while the weakness that remains a major problem in research in this field is the problem of the incompleteness of data sources due to limited public access to private resources on the Internet topology.
