Abstract

The author describes a trip she took through the Darién Gap, the rain forest on the border between Colombia and Panama that interrupts the Pan-American Highway, with Colombian guide Sergio Tamayo in March 2013. Violence in the area between the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and right-wing paramilitary forces is mentioned, as well as ecotourism, boat travel in the region, and government attempts to build roads to cross the Gap.
