Abstract

In ubiquitous smart space, identification of the device's location as well as human is essential to provide dynamic services. Dynamic service binding depends on what service is available, where the service is requested, and which devices can support the service. However, most of research considers that the space is just the plane and the device's location is represented by the coordinates (x, y) rather than the spaces such as a living room or a kitchen. Therefore, the post-processing is needed to integrate the above three kinds of information. In this paper, we propose a smart space model for dynamic service providing and the method for managing the device's location. For this, we developed an embedded system called a space manager and deployed it to our test bed for u-Home. As a result, we showed that our smart space model enabled to manage the multiple spaces and devices effectively. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media B.V.
