Abstract

The methodology and results of the economic evaluation of N and P fertilizer strategies for sub-Saharan Africa, using semilog and quadratic response models and results from field experiments, are presented and discussed. Crops involved were maize in Nigeria, Togo, Sierra Leone and Gambia, maize/cowpea relay cropping in Nigeria (P only), maize/beans intercropping in Kenya (P only), and millet in Niger. The fertilizers used were urea, urea supergranules, CAN, partially acidulated phosphate rock, single and triple superphosphate, diammonium phosphate, NPK, and ground rock phosphate.
