Abstract

This chapter describes different ecological factors influencing the distri bution, occurrence and proper development of bamboo vegetation. The three-phase gregarious flowering behaviour of bamboos, reproductive biology, the existence of flowering diversities and importance of more than one flowering cohort in a species are discussed for frequent seed yield. Emphasis was given on the nursery techniques of planting material production, steps of raising different types of bamboo planta tion and species suitability, and aftercare in the field along with the bamboo-based different agroforestry options. The scientific management procedure of bamboo stand is also outlined for higher productivity.
