The management of closed chest injuries

Abstract

In view of the increasing number of cases of chest injuries treated, in general surgical wards a classification of closed chest injuries is presented. The clinical features, methods of investigation and management of the more common types of closed injury are described and a summary of the indications for, and principles in management of, mechanical ventilation is given.
