Abstract

Various classification systems for brainstem gliomas have been described [1]. It has been recognized for some time that there is a subgroup of these lesions that are exophytic to the substance of the brainstem and have a very different biology to the diffusely infiltrating intrinsic brainstem lesions [2]. The histology of these lesions is usually pilocytic astrocytoma and outcome is generally good. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2006.
