Millstätter See (Carinthia, Austria; 13,25 km2, z = 140 m, T= 89 m; catchment area: 280 km2) was influenced by Mg-enriched waste water (high turbidity, high pii) and sewage. As the result of the high nutrient content, especially phosphorus, a slow, since 1968 a fast eutrophication process, with Oscillatoria rubescens blooming in 1972 and 1973 can be recorded. The algae biomass increased from 0,5 to more than 90 g/m2 (0–20 m).
