Abstract

There is increasing recognition of the need for an integrated approach between pediatric neurologists and child psychiatrists to effectively care for children with neurological disorders. The consultation-liaison providers are increasingly called on to identify psychiatric manifestations of neurological disorders and to help manage the emotional and behavioral effects of the illness, its treatment, and longer-term neuropsychiatric sequelae. This chapter reviews common childhood neurological illness and highlights relevant psychiatric considerations in their presentation, assessment, and treatment.
